Fortress Tsari Mali Grad

Tsari Mali Grad offers a hilltop fortress visit rather than a quick roadside monument. At Belchin, make the climb part of the plan: once at the complex, look at how the defensive enclosure uses Sveti Spas Hill and how the displays explain the site’s archaeological layers. The village below gives the visit a second, different setting.

The operator’s access information lists two walking approaches with markedly different gradients. A shorter route is not necessarily the easier one. Choose footwear for the climb, carry water and ask about the most suitable approach before bringing a pushchair or relying on step-free access. Do not assume that a narrow hill road guarantees visitor parking.
