Aleksandar Stamboliyski museum

Slavovica

Alexander Stamboliiski (1879-1923) was born in the village of Slavovitsa (municipality Septemvri). He is one of the most impressive and influential political figures in Bulgaria in the beginning of XX century. Stambolijski is founder of the Bulgarian Agrarian Party (BZNS) and was prime minister of Bulgaria in 1919 - 1923 when he was martyred.

The birth-house of Stamboliyski is located in the southern edge of the village, at the foot of the hill "Yanini gramadi". It was built in the middle of XІX century and is in typical ethnographic style of Srednogorie region. As appreciation and admiration for the work of Al. Stamboliiski and his tragic death, in 1958 the Council of Ministers of Bulgaria decided to establish a museum "Al. Stamboliyski" including his birth-house, the villa and a museum-Ossuary.

In 1968 the three sites have been declared "historical monuments of national importance".
