Thracian Tomb

The Kazanlak Thracian Tomb is important for its painted burial interior, not because visitors can freely enter the original. UNESCO's account describes the corridor, round chamber and Hellenistic murals, and explains the nearby copy's role in protecting the monument. The original has been a World Heritage site since 1979.

Plan to visit the replica. The Iskra museum's visitor page lists the replica as open daily, 09:00–17:00, and publishes an order stopping visits to the original. An old price or description of a three-minute original visit does not establish current permission.

Inside the replica, pay attention to the painted human figures and the relationship between the passage and burial chamber. The museum identifies the central couple, attendants and musicians, and a chariot-race scene. The copy offers an interpretation of the architecture and paintings; it is not the original painted surface.
