The gorge of the river Erma

Erma Gorge near Tran makes a strong landscape stop because the river and opposing limestone walls can be understood together at close range. The Bulgarian Tourist Union's site profile places the gorge near Lomnitsa and describes the river cutting through the rock. A short observation visit is different from completing a longer ecotrail.

Before walking, ask Tran's tourist information contact about the current permitted approach, bridges and any closures. The BTS profile mentions a tunnel approach and longer walking possibilities, but that description is not an inspection of today's route. Do not assume every advertised bridge or viewpoint is usable, or continue past a barrier because an old itinerary recommends it.

Allow 45–90 minutes as an editorial estimate for an approved short viewpoint visit near the entrance, excluding transport and any longer circuit. Choose the route after checking conditions; a full hike needs its own distance, daylight and return plan. Information-centre hours and tourist-stamp availability are separate from access to the outdoor gorge.

Wear shoes suitable for uneven ground and avoid slippery edges, damaged structures and high-water conditions. Keep children close wherever there is a drop, and turn back if a crossing is doubtful rather than improvising along the river. Combine the outing with time in Tran itself, allowing a slower journey and any town attractions to have their own opening arrangements.
