Sofia Zoo

Plan a few sectors, not an animal checklist. Sofia Zoo is a large outdoor visit with indoor halls, not a quick room-by-room museum. The official visitor map identifies the primate halls, big-cat area, aquarium and other sectors. Pick two or three interests first, then leave time to watch behaviour rather than trying to find every species.

Choose the entrance before arranging transport. The west entrance is on Srebarna Street; the central entrance is approached from the Simeonovsko Shose side. Agree where your group will meet and leave from, and check the current journey separately. The map helps with orientation, but does not establish that every path is step-free or every listed animal is visible today.

Arrive before the halls and ticket desks close. Our editorial estimate is two to three hours with a break. The zoo's current timetable separates entry, indoor viewing and the later permitted departure. In summer, staying until 19:00 does not mean you can buy a ticket or enter a hall at 18:30. Winter days have shorter visiting windows.

Build the outing around your companions. Take water and weather-appropriate clothing, set a manageable route and ask staff about access assistance. Keep the visit calm around enclosures; do not feed animals or tap on glass. If children tire, shorten the route rather than add another sector. A further Sofia stop needs its own travel allowance after the zoo.
