Samara flag monument

Defenders of Stara Zagora Memorial Complex is a monument in Stara Zagora.

It was unveiled on July 30, 1977 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the battles near Stara Zagora and Shipka, where the Bulgarian volunteers from 1, 2nd, 4th, 4th, 5th and 6th companies under the command of Russian officers together with Russian cavalry and artillery entered the battle with the army of Suleiman Pasha on July 31, 1877.

The monument is a concrete structure, 50 m high. It resembles a waving flag imitating the Samara flag of the volunteers. It was built on the site of the command post of the volunteers. Next to the monument are concrete structures representing 6 Bulgarian volunteers and a Russian officer, a symbol of the 6 volunteer companies under the command of Russian officers. Under the volunteers is the ossuary. Burns and eternal fire in a structure made in the form of bayonets.

The monument can be reached by 100 steps.

Designers of the monument are the author's team consisting of: sculptors - Krum Damyanov and Bozhidar Kozarev, architects - Bogomil Davidkov and Blagovest Valkov, designer - eng. Anton Maleev.
